how to CarryOn in New Orleans, LA

New Orleans is a compact town, but where you stay affects how you’ll explore the city. Most New Orleans hotel deals are centered near the Quarter, the CBD and the Warehouse District; for visitors, these are the best locations to experience the city.

Most first time visitors to New Orleans know about Mardi Gras and the French Quarter. That is where a lot of the action is concentrated. A great hotel deal that puts you close to the action while offering great value is the Chateau Dupre Hotel. Just three blocks from Bourbon Street, this hotel puts guests close to the charming shops of Royal Street and the Riverwalk Marketplace.

New Orleans has something for everyone from museums, historical sites and art galleries to amazing cafes, shopping, casinos and street entertainment. For family vacations, New Orleans is home to a world-class zoo and aquarium and Mardi Gras World, a warehouse of Mardi Gras props. For the night owl, the New Orleans nightlife is a beast all its own and the festivals in the city are like no other festivals in the country.

Public transportation in New Orleans isn’t as sophisticated as say, New York, but the streetcars are a charming way to explore this historic city.

Jackson Square is a must see Nawlin’s landmark in the heart of the French Quarter. St. Louis Cathedral, Prebytere and the Pontalba buildings are beautiful landmarks with fascinating history. Street performers are really what bring the square to life as painters, mimes, musicians, dancers and other street performers entertain tourists.

Another must see attraction is the infamous Bourbon Street, also in the Quarter. It’s loud, wild and borderline gaudy at times but it’s uniquely New Orleans. Each night revelers party into the early hours of the morning at the countless bars and nightclubs that line the street. Be warned that there is an adult element to Bourbon Street featuring strip clubs and adult novelty shops. Bourbon is not censored.

There are few places in the world where the cemeteries are a tourist attraction, but then again there’s no place like New Orleans. With over 40 cemeteries in the city, St. Louis #1 is the most famous. It’s home to voodoo priestess Marie Laveau. New Orleans also has a reputation for being one of the most haunted cities in the country which makes for interesting ghost stories and tours.

One visit to New Orleans is not enough to appreciate all this city has to offer. From the remnants of the Antebellum South to the jazz legacy of the city, The Big Easy is a city unlike any other with amazing hotel deals and fun for the entire family.
