If location were ever crucial anywhere, New York is that place. Known as a shockingly pricey place to live, visitors don’t have to worry because no matter what end of the financial spectrum you fall, there’s a great New York hotel deal around every corner.

If you are traveling in style like Eddie Murphy’s Prince Hakim with papa James Earl Jones footing your bill, then by all means, the Waldorf Astoria with its all-marble bathrooms and opulent rooms welcomes you. If not, you can still have a luxury stay at a great deal. The Hilton Hotel New York Fashion District is located in the most fashionable district and is minutes away from three iconic neighborhoods: Greenwich Village, SoHo and TriBeCa, each with its own vibe and personality.

New York virgins will undoubtedly want to do the touristy thing unless they want to impress New Yorkers with fashionable apathy. The place to start is the natural enigma that is Central Park. Yes there are a lot of people there, but Central Park is huge and you can get lost, so take a map.

All the major sights in the city can be tackled in a day or two; the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the MoMA, Broadway and Times Square. Granted, Manhattan may look concentrated but it is 33 miles of solid city blocks. If you don’t get a week-long subway pass or plan on taking cabs everywhere, some Dr. Scholl’s inserts wouldn’t hurt. Literally.

For a tourist one-stop-shop, the Empire State Building is the way to go. The view from the 86th-floor observation deck gives you the beautiful glamour of the city in one-go. Get great deals on passes and to avoid long lines, 8:30 a.m. Monday through Wednesday is the best time to visit.

New York and Chicago both tout having the best pizza this side of creation. The jury is still out on that one but when in the Big Apple, Di Fara’s, John’s and Lombardi’s contend for title of Best Pizza in New York.

Barney’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf’s are the luxe New York-centric icons of the fashion world. You may only be able to afford a pair of socks (maybe) but window shopping and dreaming are free.

Grand Central Terminal is New York’s temple to history and culture. Visit the Oyster Bar downstairs or have a bit of fun in the Whispering Gallery.

And if Sex and the City taught us anything at all, it’s that New York’s one of the planet’s most romantic places; Paris, eat your heart out. One of thousands of romantic rendezvous spots is Little Branch, open till 3 a.m. every day except Sunday. This dimly lit cocktail lounge is great for couples looking to whisper a bit of spice into their relationship.
